This is my 'Beginning' song for the "Soundtrack of My Life" contest.

I chose this song for many reasons. It's one I love and know I could sing. I was so happy when I saw it was a 'blue' song because I felt that I could do a lot with it for this.

When I was 6, I took piano lessons, but the teacher said I would never be any good (I think I was too distracted/hyper for her to work with), so I quit after 1 month. But my younger brother kept at it . . . I don't know if it was sibling rivalry or what, but I got back into it. This song was one of the first songs I taught myself to play.

Although video was optional, I decided it would help. My old webcam from the 90's bit the the dust, so I went and got this new and taught myself how to use it + ManyCam over the past 3 days. I've never tried to be creative like this in a video, but it was a lot of fun! (The blog article shared in the contest rules was very helpful - thanks!)

I chose the unicorn because horses and unicorns were something I just loved so much as a little kid (okay, I still love them!), and I remember wanting to *be* a unicorn when I was little! This song starts about how memories "light the corner of my mind," so I added a slideshow of childhood photos up in the corner!

The lyrics also suit my childhood. I don't actually remember a lot of things. When I see photos, it jogs some memories, but not a lot. So for me that goes with, "what's too painful to remember, we simply choose to forget". There's a photo of me with my Dad in a pool somewhere. I don't remember ever having fun in a pool when I was little, but I do know that I fell in a pool of my parents' friends when I was small and nearly drowned. I've been scared ever of deep water ever since, and clearly chose not to remember that memory.

I remember some funny things, but sadly, the more humiliating moments, especially from school days, stand out. I'm autistic, but didn't know then, which surely made things all the more difficult.

And then, "could it be that it was all so simple then?" In some ways, yes, childhood was simpler, but it was also fraught with worry and awkwardness. "If we had the chance to do it all again, would we? Could we?" While there are things I wish I could redo so that I wouldn't have to live with their memories, I would not want to change anything that would change how my life is now, so, no, if I had the chance, I wouldn't ... and don't think I *could* do it all again.

I hope you enjoy it.

You've captured the song beautifully, both in words and music. The slideshow was cute too, and the singing unicorn was a clever touch!

Good luck Amanda!!
