Really good stuff, the only thing was I could say (not bad) was in the blending, I wish I could have heard a little more of the harmony as it seemed a little low but overall that was very good.

This is a really fun song to do harmony on. I layed down the lead part and did 1 harmony part already and would love to build it from there.

If you would like to join in on it here's what we'll do.
First, post that you want in, and I'll add you to the list below. Once you have recorded you part either post it back on this thread or send me a link in PM and we can review for timing and blending (Mix) before adding to it.
Remember, When doing overlays the key to making a good recording is getting the mix right before adding to it. If it's not right once you have recorded over it there is nothing that can be done about it.
Once done and posted the next one in line can lay down there part and so on.
So whos next?

2.
3.
4.
???
Lets have some fun with this or if there is a song any of you would like to do like this pitch it out here, I'm sure we all would love to jump in on them.
Lets make some sweet HARMONY

I never was that good at harmony, so maybe I should keep my mouth shut.
The standard harmony feature that SS gives us usually results in a mess if there are more than two or three different singers. As said at the beginning of this discussion ... "The 2 main things are the timing and volume of the recording we are laying down over the original recording."
I would add to that the sometimes incompatibility when some singers use heavy vocal effects and others use no effects at all. Then there is the issue of dynamics that are not compatible.
There is a way to solve all these problem. Each singer records their vocal track without the music or excessive effects. All of the vocal tracks are then sent to one person doing the mixing. The vocal tracks are loaded into a multi-track audio editor. Using EQ, compression, volume adjustment, timing adjustment, and mild effects, the vocals are made to sound good together. The finished vocal mix is then played into the SS recorder and the music is added in song review.
If there are 4 or 5 that would like to try harmony with the above studio process, I could provide the how-to instruction and the mixing.
I may not be good at singing harmony but I know somebody that did some great setups. one I did with her ....

Great input, you are right about the type of equipment each of us use. It without a doubt differs greatly. Some good some not so good LOL. Not that the singing or the equipment is bad but many just don't know how to use it. kind of like having a car that will go 200mph, you only drive 65, no point in having it if you can't use it for what it was built for. Or having an Iphone that comes with 100 apps but we only us a few, the rest we don't have any idea what they are or how to use them so they are just there.
Thank you for the offer, I hope some of you take this offer up.
For me, part of the fun when I record is in getting the mix, timing and blend just right. there are some trick to doing this but I know from being a member and listening to 100s over the years many of us could put down much better recordings once we understand a few basic principles of how the site works. Building a recording one layer is fun for sure but again there are tricks to it so remember if you have any questions about how to get the best out of what we have to work with that what we are here for.

What you did for youtube was almost the same studio process I suggested for harmonies on SS. The one difference is that on SS we are not allowed to download the music. The voices are mixed and edited just as you did for the linked song, but the music gets added after the vocals are sent to SS.
It can be a lot of work to mix the production, but it's relatively easy for others to participate. Each singer listens to the music and records their vocal. A singer can use a recording app on their computer or an online recorder such as at twistedwave.com Then the vocal track as a mp3 file is emailed to the member doing the mixing.

Welcome To Totally Harmony Plus
For those that to love listen and/or sing harmony with yourself or others.
!!THIS IS NOT A CONTEST!!.
This thread is for those that love listen and sing harmony, to learn from each other and ask questions or leave comments on how to get the most out of your recordings
Please feel free to post songs that you have either sang harmony with yourself or others.
So what Is Harmony?
Music consists of three main elements—melody, rhythm, and harmony. While the first two are typically accountable for making a piece of music memorable—think of the opening motif of Beethoven’s Symphony No. 5, or Timbaland’s synth lick on the Jay-Z song “Dirt Off Your Shoulder”—it’s the third element, harmony, that can elevate a piece from common and predictable to challenging and sophisticated.
Harmony is the composite product when individual musical voices group together to form a cohesive whole. Think of an orchestra: the flute player may be playing one note, the violinist plays a different note, and the trombonist plays yet a different note. But when their individual parts are heard together, harmony is created.
When listen to a song or someone singing if you are only hearing the harmony part alone many times you will think it sounds off or to be blunt just sounds bad. But if heard together with the lead parts it can be outstanding. I know people that only sing harmony and when alone it sounds like there is something missing, It's the same with instruments.
Like when our kids are in band and at home learning their part. I know for me I would think"oh no, he/she is never going to get it" but when they play at school with all the rest of the kids your are filled with pride as you hear the finished product with all the kids doing their part.
It is the same when singing harmony the end product can make the listener feel every note. Harmony is not as easy as we think it is and not for everyone but anyone can do it with a little practice. It's not the same as singing in unison for sure but once we understand what it is it can be so much fun to do.
When recording on SingSnap there are a few things that can make or break a recording when it comes to doing harmonies. The 2 main things are the timing and volume of the recording we are laying down over the original recording.
These are also the same issues many of us face when recording on SingSnap or any other site like this one be it a lead vocal or harmony part. If you have a question about how this works please feel free to ask. We are not here to judge anyone only to help you be happier with your recordings.
